At the end of March, Maison Symphonique will host Roméo & Juliette, a fundraising event jointly organized by Montreal’s music and dramatic art conservatories in collaboration with the Fondation du Conservatoire.
The concert will bring together over 80 young artists from Orchestre symphonique du Conservatoire de musique and graduates from Conservatoire d’art dramatique. “It’s an artistic experience in which symphonic music and theatre come together to celebrate and showcase the next generation”, say Catherine Richer and Luc Chaput, directors of the drama and music conservatories, respectively.
They each underline the importance of the participation of the public-at-large to support and invest in culture in order to strengthen artistic vitality that will shape tomorrow’s cultural landscape. They explain how the funds raised will help conservatory students by providing optimal conditions for them to achieve excellence, bold artistic vision and employability. “Beyond the artistic experience, Roméo & Juliette is a concrete gesture of support for training, backing and the flourishing of young creators.”
There are three ways members of the public can contribute. $50 to attend the event; $250 for the event and cocktail reception accompanied by the artists and the creative team and finally, an exclusive $2,000 experience, with seating amidst the orchestra followed by a private cocktail reception.
“By taking part in Roméo & Juliette, the donors become essential participants in the young artists’ path and actively contribute to the dissemination of a strong, human and sustainable culture,” say the organizers.
Shakespeare et Prokofiev
“Thanks to the generosity of its partners and donors, the Fondation du Conservatoire is able to annually fund study, training and excellence scholarships, allowing students to participate in international competitions, auditions or tours. As well, the Fondation supports various educational activities such as internships, master courses, competitions and mentoring sessions. It awards annual scholarships to Conservatoire students to ensure accessibility and the pursuit of music and dramatic arts.”
The program consists of an adaptation by Rébecca Déraspe of Shakespeare’s famous play with staging by Marie-Éve Milot. The concert also features excerpts from Prokofiev’s Romeo and Juliet orchestral suites performed by Orchestre symphonique du Conservatoire, under the baton of Simon Rivard with the participation of horn soloist Guillaume d’Aragon.
