The Fedorova & Takser Piano Duo show off their eclecticism in this single release of the first official recording of a work by the late Russian composer and pianist, Nikolai Kapustin (1937-2020) known for his fusion of jazz and classical forms. Three for Two. Triptych for Two Pianos, Op. 145, was composed in 2012 but not published until 2024 by the renowned Schott publishing house.

As its name suggests, the work is divided into three movements, each of which allows the performers to show off the full extent of their abilities. The first movement stands out for its virtuosity, its driving rhythm and its long, extremely free ornamental lines, as if it were truly improvised.

The duettists are incredibly precise in their attacks, and wonderfully recreate the constant swaying effect that is so typical of jazz. The second movement is slower, but also more seductive, thanks in particular to the excellent balance between delayed and accelerated passages.

Finally, the third movement is akin to a Piazzolla tango, with frenzied rhythms and an art of ornamental line that gives the music enormous depth. A little gem that once again bears witness to the spirited playing of the Fedorova and Takser duo.
