Unveiling of two Special Prizes

During the evening of May 29, the CMIM also unveiled the winners of two special prizes:

Theodore Platt, Best performance of a Contemporary Aria Prize winner

The Prize for the Best Performance of a Contemporary Aria, presented in partnership with Dixi Lambert and accompanied by a $2,500 grant, recognizes the excellence of an interpretation of an aria composed after 1975, performed during the Aria stage of the First Round. This distinction was awarded to English baritone Theodore Platt for his performance of an excerpt from George Benjamin’s Written On Skin.

Fleuranne Brockway, Junior Jury Prize winner

The Junior Jury Prize was awarded by a junior jury chaired by Aline Kutan and composed of five advanced voice students and one collaborative pianist from Montreal’s leading music institutions. Presented in partnership with Richard Tremblay, this prize is accompanied by a $1,000 grant and was awarded to Fleuranne Brockway.

Semifinal

The Semifinal, taking place over two evenings, June 3 and 4, will be held at Maison symphonique de Montréal where the competitors will perform with the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal, the official orchestra of the CMIM. See the performance order and full schedule on the CMIM website.

The ten semifinalists of the Voice 2025 edition will each present a program consisting of three arias, with a maximum duration of 18 minutes of music. This repertoire will highlight their vocal and stylistic versatility, and must include one aria from the oratorio repertoire and two works drawn from the opera or orchestral repertoire. To showcase their linguistic abilities and expressive range, the singers must perform works in at least two languages.

At the conclusion of this critical stage, the jury will select five singers to advance to the Grand Final.

CMIM On the Road

The journey continues for those not advancing to the Semifinal. Audiences will have the opportunity to hear them perform on other Quebec stages as part of CMIM On the  Road, with concerts taking place on May 30 and 31, as well as June 1 in Île des Sœurs, Farnham, and Hudson.
