David Bradstreet came to Canada from England with his parents and sister in 1956. After studying architecture he played the Campus Directions college coffeehouse circuit in the U.S. and for three years visited most states as a solo performer. He spent pivotal time in New York City working with Peter Yarrow (Peter, Paul & Mary) and Phil Ramone including a duo with Mimi Farina. He joined Lazarus (with Carl Keesee and Billie Hughes), worked with Albert Grossman in Woodstock NY and toured with Todd Rundgren.

Returning to Canada, David’s song, Renaissance, became a folk standard. The late ’70s saw two high profile albums on A&M, “David Bradstreet” and “Dreaming in Colour”, which led to the JUNO for Best New Male Vocalist 1977.

Major tours ensued (Supertramp, John Prine, etc.), with concert and broadcast appearances including Ian Tyson’s Nashville North.

On his Street Records label, he released his, Black & White record in 1981 as record producer/engineer, he released the first album by Jane Siberry on Street Records in 1981, and another by former Lazarus partner Billie Hughes the same year, which lead to the production of artists such as Colleen Peterson, Nancy Simmonds, Robert Priest, Jason Fowler and Mira Meikle amongst others.

His Renaissance CD was released in 1998 and his first A&M albums, David Bradstreet and Dreaming in Colour, were re-released by Universal Music. Lifelines, joined by Jason Fowler (guitars) and David Woodhead (bass) followed in 2006. 08.20.10 was recorded live-off-the-floor at his Toronto studio with long time pal Carl Keesee on bass. In 2011 he travelled to Antarctica as artist-in-residence aboard the MS Expedition.

Recent releases include: Best Foot Forward 2021, Hindsight 2023 and most recent: Bradstreet & Keesee LIVE in London 2025. David Bradstreet and Carl Keesee are delighted to return to Hugh’s Room to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the eponymous A&M album, David Bradstreet.
