For more than 30 years, Quebecer Louis Lortie has performed all over the world, forging his reputation as one of the most complete pianists on the international music scene. He regularly collaborates with the most prestigious orchestras such as the BBC Symphony Orchestra, the BBC Philharmonic, the Orchester National de France and the Dresden Philharmonic in Europe, as well as the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Dallas Symphony, the San Diego Symphony and the St Louis and New-Jersey Symphony in the United States.
In his native Canada, he forged special ties with the orchestras of Toronto, Vancouver, Ottawa and Calgary. In Asia, his collaborations include the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, where he was artist-in-residence in 2017-18, as well as the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra and the National Taiwan Symphony Orchestra.
In the Southern Hemisphere, he performs with the Adelaide and Sydney Symphony Orchestras. He regularly collaborates with Yannick Nézet-Séguin, Edward Gardner, Sir Andrew Davis, Jaap Van Zweden, Simone Young, Antoni Wit and Thierry Fischer.
A prolific artist, he has a discography of over 45 recordings for Chandos, which includes concertos, solo works and piano duets with pianist Hélène Mercier. A former winner of the Busoni Competition of the Leeds Competition (1984), Lortie studied in Montreal with Yvonne Hubert, in Vienna with Dieter Weber, then with Leon Fleisher.
