Welcome to the June/July 2026 national issue of La Scena Musicale showcasing Canadian summer festivals! Our English cover features soprano Erin Morley who, along with tenor Lawrence Brownlee, brings their Golden Age program to Toronto Summer Music in July. Soprano Saioa Hernández, who makes her Canadian debut as Lady Macbeth at Festival de Lanaudière, graces our French cover.

In addition to our own summer festival picks, we check in with various festivals across the country. Meet William Fedkenheuer, the new leader of Toronto Summer Music. We also chat with Renaud Loranger at Lanaudière, and Carissa Klopoushak at Ottawa Chamberfest. Discover festival offerings in Elora, and those from Ottawa’s Music and Beyond, Highlands Opera Studio and Opera 5’s Toronto Opera Festival.

With Festival Bites, insiders share their takes on the best places to eat and drink at Canadian festivals. In our continuing series, Cityscapes, Montreal artists direct us to their beloved neighbourhoods and the best spots to soak up music and theatre.

To celebrate the 30th anniversary of National Indigenous Peoples Day on June 21, notable artists select their favourite Indigenous tracks.

Calendar

Our national events calendar presents concert listings from your local region. Due to space limitations, listings are summarized. Readers are invited to consult our online calendar at www.mySCENA.org and with the benefit of a search tool, explore more extensive listings sorted by region across Canada. More than 800 concerts are added each month, making La Scena Musicale’s calendar of events Canada’s most comprehensive classical music calendar!

SUBSCRIPTION AND DONATION DRIVE

Starting in September, La Scena Musicale will be celebrating its 30th birthday!

For this milestone occasion, we are preparing a series of book magazines on Giacomo Puccini, Gustav Mahler and Handel’s Messiah to coincide with recent and upcoming landmark anniversaries. The goal is to highlight the historical significance of these great artists and their music. We have launched a crowdfunding campaign for the Puccini book magazine to help cover production costs. Your support will go a long way to make this a reality! Simply go to our homepage at www.mySCENA.org.

La Scena Musicale has evolved with changing media consumption habits while also maintaining its core mission—to make music and the arts more widely accessible to all. Our print magazine provides thoughtful curated articles and interviews in both English and French, along with our website which focuses on news, reviews and events.

Throughout 2026, our goal is to continue expanding both our print and digital content. We have many talented writers and want to ensure that their diverse voices are heard. Frequent price increases of magazine paper, however, are a cause for concern. Consider supporting the magazine through a donation, a bequest in your will (legacy-giving) and/or by joining our fundraising committee. Contact us at [email protected].

Other ways to support La Scena Musicale’s mission is through the LSM Boutique at www.mySCENA.org, where items like musically-themed greeting cards and tickets to our partners’ events are available for purchase.

To ensure receiving all of our regular issues, purchase a La Scena Musicale magazine subscription. Subscriptions also make ideal gifts throughout the year for loved ones including the student, parent and/or artist in your life. It’s the gift that keeps on giving!

La Scena Musicale keeps an active presence on social media (Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn). Our website is updated daily with new and engaging content—visit www.mySCENA.org.

May your world be enriched with live music all through the summer season!

Happy summer!!!
