In a monastery, a mystical abbess composes rhapsodic songs to the glory of God. Below the window of a woman married to a wealthy lord, a troubadour sings of his ardent love. In a vast gothic cathedral, pilgrims begin a few songs of devotion to the Virgin at the end of their long journey. Around a banquet table, some noblemen enjoy the bounty of their hunt to the sounds of a joyful estampie… Many are the songs and instrumental pieces of the Middle Ages that accompanied activities of daily life, for both the poor peasantry and the wealthy nobility.
