C\u2019est ce \u00e0 quoi nous convie Quartom avec <em>Renaissance<\/em>, un disque \u00e0 \u00e9couter chez soi cet hiver, une tisane chaude \u00e0 la main.<\/p>\n<p><em>Renaissance <\/em>rend hommage \u00e0 Palestrina (1525-1594), le grand ma\u00eetre de la polyphonie vocale. Du d\u00e9but \u00e0 la fin, l\u2019album oscille entre ses \u0153uvres et des chants gr\u00e9goriens. Le concept est heureux\u00a0: en quelque sorte caress\u00e9e par la sobri\u00e9t\u00e9 des m\u00e9lodies gr\u00e9goriennes, l\u2019oreille se trouve toujours mieux dispos\u00e9e \u00e0 recevoir la charge harmonique des polyphonies.<\/p>\n<p>Les voix sont pleines, lisses, unies (seules les fins de phrases s\u2019ouvrent \u00e0 de l\u00e9gers vibratos), les dosages habiles (les effleurements de la basse dans l\u2019<em>Adoramus Te<\/em> sont admirables) et les r\u00e9verb\u00e9rations de l\u2019\u00e9glise Saint-Esprit savamment \u00e9tudi\u00e9es. Les membres de Quartom n\u2019en sont pas \u00e0 leurs premiers chants sacr\u00e9s, cela s\u2019entend.<\/p>\n<p>Un d\u00e9faut n\u00e9anmoins\u00a0: le livret. On n\u2019y trouve aucune explication sur les relations entre le chant gr\u00e9gorien et la polyphonie. De m\u00eame, la vie et l\u2019\u0153uvre de Palestrina ne sont pas pr\u00e9sent\u00e9es.<\/p>\n<p>La \u00ab\u00a0renaissance\u00a0\u00bb est celle du groupe qui, apr\u00e8s dix ans d\u2019existence, se renouvelle avec le t\u00e9nor Antonio Figueroa, successeur de Ga\u00e9tan Sauvageau.
