L\u2019album \u00e9ponyme de <a href=\"https:\/\/aap5.myscena.org\/bridget-esler\/david-potvin-honouring-canadian-repertoire\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">David Potvin<\/a> honore cette signification en pr\u00e9sentant avec \u00e9motion et vuln\u00e9rabilit\u00e9 quatre \u0153uvres sombres mais puissantes, toutes de compositeurs canadiens. Chaque \u0153uvre faisait partie du programme de Potvin pour le concours Eckhardt-Grammat\u00e9 2022. Apr\u00e8s avoir remport\u00e9 le concours et pr\u00e9sent\u00e9 le m\u00eame programme en tourn\u00e9e \u00e0 travers le Canada, ces pi\u00e8ces sont devenues les pr\u00e9f\u00e9r\u00e9es du public.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">L\u2019album s\u2019ouvre sur <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A Growing Forgiveness<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> de <a href=\"https:\/\/www.crisderksen.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Cris Derksen<\/a>. L\u2019\u0153uvre est une r\u00e9ponse artistique aux tensions de la pand\u00e9mie de COVID-19. Potvin saisit avec justesse cette tension et ce rel\u00e2chement, notamment \u00e0 travers un d\u00e9ferlement de gammes et de passages techniques \u00e0 la main droite. Le contraste timbral entre les climax rythmiques discordants et les motifs calmes et plus harmonieux du d\u00e9but et de la fin est bien mis en valeur. Les <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">13 Pr\u00e9ludes<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> de Jean Coulthard contiennent chacun un sous-titre \u00e9vocateur d\u2019un caract\u00e8re ou d\u2019un sentiment sp\u00e9cifique. Potvin r\u00e9ussit particuli\u00e8rement bien \u00e0 saisir le temp\u00e9rament du troisi\u00e8me pr\u00e9lude, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pensive<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Ici, le silence parle aussi fort que la musique elle-m\u00eame. Potvin laisse le souffle se m\u00ealer \u00e0 son jeu, ce qui conf\u00e8re \u00e0 la musique un caract\u00e8re particuli\u00e8rement humain.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Murmuration<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> de Keiko Devaux commence par des gestes musicaux qui s\u2019apparentent \u00e0 des chants d\u2019oiseaux dans l\u2019extr\u00eame aigu. Au fur et \u00e0 mesure que le morceau progresse, les mains se rapprochent des octaves moyennes, r\u00e9solvant ainsi la dualit\u00e9 ant\u00e9rieure. L\u2019habilet\u00e9 technique de Potvin permet de naviguer de fa\u00e7on experte dans les nombreux tours et d\u00e9tours de cette \u0153uvre et chaque geste se lit v\u00e9ritablement comme un oiseau individuel contribuant \u00e0 un ch\u0153ur plus grand.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">L\u2019album se termine par un arrangement de Potvin de <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Contented House<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> de Coulthard. \u00c0 l\u2019origine, il s\u2019agissait d\u2019une suite orchestrale dont Potvin a su pr\u00e9server la texture tranquille et les couleurs uniques dans sa transcription pour piano.
